Joan Hunter started Operation Morale Booster during the Vietnam War. Operation Morale Booster was where Joan would write letters to soldiers serving in Vietnam during the war. Out of the this began a relationship with Bob Johnson, a soldier serving in the U.S. Army.
Joan’s daughter, Susan P. Hunter, wrote 77 Letters about her mother’s work and the friendship between Bob and Joan. This friendship was significant because Joan was a white married woman while Bob was single Black man.

LCpl Travis Partington Going to find that book. That program was fantastic. I had some Jr High students that wrote me a few times as part of class projects and have had one find me a year ago and just recently had the daughter of another write me. She had been cleaning out her Mothers things and found letters that her Mom had saved for over 50 years. I was floored and really deeply touched. Thanks for this post and a heads up on the book. Was like a time machine reading my old letters to her.

To be a great at morale boosting I believe one should be an innovative thinker. I talked to the MEDEVAC pilots to fly our soldiers around. The soldiers gave a pilot a gift certificate for two free large pizzas so everyone was happy. Those pilots were funny, cool, and wonderful. They helped me accomplish an important task.
