To be fair, there are Christian churches in Africa without any European influence involved (the Coptics for example).

SPC Paul Shene III - Christianity is an import in Africa. It didn't arise spontaneously. At some point in history there was a missionary with either weapons forcing conversions, or a missionary offering needed supplies in impoverished regions in exchange for conversion.
Violence or blackmail, choose your poison.

St. Mark didn't have a load of supplies when he did his mission work in the first half the of the first century, before the papacy existed. The Copts are a unique condition having no connection with the papacy, the Greek Orthodox, or the Protestant branches. They are a window into what Christianity was before it got political power.
