Owning the gun is the easy part. Acquiring the mindset to use it when needed is the part that needs to be learned to do safely. Training, training, training. Learn to use it safely.

I've had guns since 1975, but I didn't start carrying EDC until 2018. I rarely miss a week going to the range.

I've been carrying concealed for about 30 years now. I had both military and civilian training and when I can't get to the range, dry fire is my next go to.
It is a mindset and a lifestyle. If I go out to eat, I have to decide first if I plan to have an adult beverage. If so, the firearm is in the safe in the car.
One must also be aware of what is going on around them, instead of ignoring the surroundings. It takes practice and more practice.

Maj Robert Thornton - fortunately here in Oklahoma you can sit at the bar awaiting a table in a restaurant as long as your not drinking alcohol and be armed. Its against the law to drink alcohol while carrying a gun unless your an undercover cop on a mission.

TSgt George Rodriguez and PO3 Bob McCord we can carry in bars and restaurants in GA. I just choose to not carry if I'm going to drink. I don't ever want alcohol in my system if I am ever involved in a shooting incident.

Maj Robert Thornton We can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol, but if it has a bar, we can't sit at the bar. We also can't carry and go into a bar, or carry and drink.

Training for sure. It took me forever to instinctively keep my finger off the trigger.
