TOPLINE Twenty-one House Republicans on Tuesday voted against a new bill to award congressional gold medals to the Capitol Police and the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department for their response to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, up from 12 in March.
Trump Supporters Hold ″Stop The Steal″ Rally In DC Amid Ratification Of Presidential Election
KEY FACTS
Of the 12 who voted against it last time, 11 again voted “no,” with Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas) flipping to support the bill, which passed 406-21, while 10 switched from “yes” to “no.”
The new “no” votes were Reps. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), Chip Roy (R-Texas), Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Jody Hice (R-Ga.), Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Barry Moore (R-Ala.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.).
The bill was updated to include a mention of Capitol Police Officer William Evans, who was slain in a separate attack on the Capitol in April, and give a medal to the architect of the Capitol for display.
It also resolved a discrepancy between the House and Senate about awarding an individual medal to Officer Eugene Goodman, dropping that demand by the Senate and instead allowing nonprofits to raise funds for medals for individual officers.
KEY BACKGROUND
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) told reporters in March his objection to the bill was its reference to the attack as an “insurrection” and the Capitol as a “temple” – lines that remained in the updated version of the bill.
CRUCIAL QUOTE
“Yeah, this is not a temple. That is for sure,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told Forbes on Tuesday, adding that she “wouldn’t call it an insurrection.” Greene favors her own bill to award medals to the police department of Minneapolis and Portland as well as Rep. Louie Gohmert’s (R-Texas) bill giving gold medals to the Capitol Police and D.C. Police but omitting any mention of Jan. 6.

I'm amazed, not only at the cop-hating members of the GOP, but those here at RallyPoint that malign and insult those brave men and women of the DC and Capitol Police should be ashamed of themselves. Three police officers are dead due to the insurrection. Over 150 officers were injured, 17 so badly that they have not been able to return to work, 5 months after the attempt to overthrow the government of the United States.
This is no different than those supporting the symbolism of the Confederate Battle Flag.
