PO1 William "Chip" Nagel "I want to understand white rage,” the general said, “and I’m white, and I want to understand it.”

When Trump was in power, Milley had to deal repeatedly with presidential rage.

According to CNN, Trump highlighted footage of confrontations between law enforcement officers and protesters and said: “That’s how you’re supposed to handle these people. Crack their skulls!”

Trump also reportedly told law enforcement and military leaders he wanted the military to “beat the fuck out” of protesters and said: “Just shoot them.”

Bender reports that in the face of opposition from Milley and the then attorney general, William Barr, Trump said: “Well, shoot them in the leg – or maybe the foot. But be hard on them!”

Milley is also reported to have told Stephen Miller, a senior Trump adviser, to “shut the fuck up”, after Miller said “cities are burning” amid protests prompted by the murder of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis last May.

Throughout a tense summer, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, a historic piece of legislation regarding domestic unrest, but ultimately did not do so.

Bender reports that at one stage Milley pointed at a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president who led the Union to victory in the civil war, and told Trump: “That guy had an insurrection. What we have, Mr President, is a protest.”

SFC David Reid, M.S, PHR, SHRM-CP, DTM - Re: So many leaving his cabinet - You might look back at obama's first term. His starting cabinet was decimated by resignations, indictments, and publicity whoopsies! I don't think you're giving the man any slack for the transition from being number one in a corporation to being number one in a cooperative function. I didn't jump on obama's case for a full year and he's been gorging at the public trough most of his adult life. On the plus side, it was refreshing to see a sharp blade cutting across what I call "civil service lockdown" of a position in government service. Functionaries were astonished to find that they could get bounced out if they didn't measure up. The erasure of mediocrity at higher levels had a profound effect down below that was long overdue. Government has become big business for a long time and I like to see some business ethics instead of backroom deals and pork that are the staples of politics we have been seeing over the years. Or do you prefer "the swamp"? I'll say this; I shudder to think of the results if 'Hitlery' had gotten into office.

I read the article and am so grateful we had a few adults around Trump to keep him in check. Not the sycophants who fed his ego.

That’s the problem with politician generals. They can’t tell the difference between some mealy mouthed politician who wouldn’t say “sh*t!” If his foot was being amputated and an everyday guy who blows off a little steam and expresses what 80% would like to be able to say in the media. I would be willing to bet that had the general made for the door after saying “Yes Sir” he wouldn’t have made 20 feet before being called back. There are times I wished he would have kept quiet but he often verbalized the frustrations and angers of many American citizens in clear unadulterated English. I refuse to believe any officer could reach General without understanding that the remark was just that, venting. I’m also quite sure this officer realized the political value if this story was released at the right time. Ahhh well the 'stars' have always lured mankind..,,. Just my opinion you see…….
