I'm still proud these people risk death to get here. I never hear of anybody trying to get into China or Russia. I just wish Reagan hadn't created his Contra Drug Gangs that these people are fleeing the descendants of.

Great Information PO1 William "Chip" Nagel. My grandparents came to the US from Ireland, England, and Germany at the beginning of the 19th century. I have first hand knowledge of what NYC was like at that time as my Dad grew up in Flushing Queens at that time and neighborhoods were strictly ethnic. He told me of the ‘colorful’ slang names for each nationality and being called a ‘Mick’ was something he learned to tolerate and all four of my grandparents learned English!

SPC Nancy Greene All My Grandparents Learned English but it wasn't what was Spoken at Home, Most of Their Parents came over from Germany and German was the Most Common Language in St Louis Until WWI. When You Live in Missouri You Learn Well about it's Marvelous Language History. English? Pfffttt, Just a Current Fad in this Part of the Country! LOL!
