It’s a targeting system for field artillery and MRLS - a specialized over line of sight/observer system that’ll allow the Army (and Marines) to target threats faster than Air Force reconnaissance can find them. With the Army Tactical Missile System, that includes targets up to 190 miles away at max range in near real time.

Yes, thanks CW4 Guy Butler . I wasn't so much asking about the system as the doctrine. Space is not assigned to Army roles and missions within the Goldwater-Nichols act. This system could easily (and should) be operated by the USSF, freeing the Army up to spend time and money on Land domain component support.

Col Joseph Lenertz It is land domain combat support, though. It’s only a step (albeit a really big one) above Army UAVs.
