How to deal with difficult coworkers and toxic managers? Change jobs. Or do it the army way. Don’t get mad, get promoted.

Nothing fixes toxic managers better than leaving and taking your productivity and knowledge with you and then they have to see you shine in a new position where you are appreciated.

Worked in a few of these situations. First step is talk to said toxic coworker. If that fails take it to the manager and have a sit down with all parties involved. The problem then is if the manager is toxic and also a friend of the toxic employee (often times this is the case). Then you go to their supervisor or the union if you have one. If that fails then you go to the director or president if that fails you can go OIG. Just be prepared to get bullied and have reprisal after you go above your first line supervisor.

In the end for me in both cases I just found a better job with better perks such as more money, better schedule, better benefits, etc. and then made the switch and tried not to hear the roaring sucking sound as I walked out the door and my workload credit leaving with me. SFC (Join to see)

We all have our crosses. Some toxic people are slicker that others. I had one in my last position that I was gathering a package on to discharge, and he was able to transfer away to another section just in the nick of time. Long story short, he’s such a charmer, and politically connected, that he made manager of another section. And then we wonder why some portions of government are not able to function right. Career politicians are what most screws up our nation. MHO
