Interesting details - but without the individual veteran and civilian groups running the people, and doing so adhoc - there would not have been a good item in a over all bad thing. The first item this article brings to mind is Why was SOCCENT not tasked to establish and coordinate the movements outside the airport and the routes? That includes establishing routes outside of Kabul... If it had been so - they would have been the direct interface with all the groups and been able to manage a flow. However.. when you have a micro managed airhead claiming to be a NEO.. you end up with a disaster.

thank you for this post. I do not know what SOCCENT is, but I was appalled over how much this looked to me just like our withdrawal from Vietnam. "insanity is doing the same things with an expectation of different results""those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" I would like to know who "micro managed airhead" is and what a NEO is to better understand your post. Thank you.

SOCCENT is Special Operations Command Central Command... which is the Theater Special Operations Component of CENTCOM - and that are overall incharge of all Special Operational Forces operating in the Central Command Area of Responsibility.

thank you for that. I think I understand why you did not elucidate on the other. As for the topic, all I had known was that there was not a proper plan in place, but my feeling is that could describe the whole war. What was most ironic to me about even going into Afghanistan, was Russia telling us that it would be like Vietnam for us; We had supported the Taliban against the Russians. I have yet to understand how we "won" this war; I cannot see where we accomplished our goals... but then again i am unsure what the goal was in the first place.
