Interesting share, my father's friends who served in Italy during WWII always called it the forgotten or backwater front.

Actually, not. My dad was there at the time and he told us all the dogfaces knew if Italy gave up (as they did) the Germans would move in and our troops knew the Germans were a much more dangerous enemy than the Italians.
