After going public with allegations of racism, a former England cricketer of Pakistani heritage has given distressing evidence to a parliamentary committee about the bullying and racial abuse he suffered as a young professional.

Azeem Rafiq told the hearing about his experience playing for Yorkshire Cricket Club and said his treatment was inhuman and the sport was institutionally racist.

In response to the story, Bushra Shaikh started a campaign called 'Run Racism Out' featuring many prominent British Pakistanis, She told Newsday that it was time to tackle racism through open and honest discussion and that it's "crazy" this hasn't happened before.
