The Sexist Facebook Movement The Marine Corps Can’t Stop

Back when I was in it wasn't vicious, and I held WM's in high regard.

PO2 Russell "Russ" Lincoln - When I joined the Marines in 99 I was told that WM stood for "Walking Mattress".
I can't remember a time when Women Marines were ever even considered "real Marines", much less afforded any courtesy or respect when I was in.
Perhaps it's because I was with 1st Marines, an Infantry Division. They treated female Marines like shit.
Hopefully the support units weren't as bad, but I don't know.

SFC Michael Hasbun - I joined in 76 my first duty was with 1/7, the few females we saw were on Main Side. When I returned to the Marines as a Corpsman in 87 I did notice a real shift with the younger Marines.

PO2 Russell "Russ" Lincoln - clearly there are changes. The article references the phrase "wook" as a slang term for Female Marines, but that wasn't a thing when I was in. I got out of the Marines in 04 though, so it's unsurprising that there would be some terminology changes over time.
