Sorry, this cold war warrior who got put on restricted alert too many times because the USSR was having a hissy fit doesn't see the problem. All SAC forces on heightened alert back in the 70s was way more than 8,500 troops and we never got headlines.

I remember in 79, we had the craziest alert of my 3 years in West Germany, we all wrote our wills, no one could leave the post for days, we were told Russia and China went at it on their border, and Nato was going in on the side of China. As you said, never made the papers.

Place air assets in Romania and a carrier batgru or two nearby, plus ground forces. Stay out of Black Sea as it's hard to get in and out. USS Portland found that out on one of our floats due to Turks. They placed their 155s on deck and waited for NCA diplomacy to get them out of port. Not sure a carrier has transited the Bosphorus, or ever has. Turkey is not exactly an ally. NATO is starting exercise in Med. Don't forget Kaliningrad in Baltics. It's hard to reckon any HIC with them and hopefully one that does not escalate to nukes. If so, it will be a shootout. A post-nuke World will not help anyone, and especially Putin's aims to reunite USSR. An opportunity to test newer assets such as lasers, but a very high cost to all ultimately. Economically could be a mess for all, especially fuel sector. I hate to venture but sometimes a big stick is needed. Some say it's not our problem. Embassy evac makes sense.

I pray our troops & no one has to fight another war.

WAR = RESPECT/COMMUNICATION/EGO

1.) Inflated - EGO : I’m right, you need to comply.

2.) Lack of COMMUNICATION : I’m not willing to talk things out, to understand our differences/issues to find a logical peaceful solution.

3.) Lack of RESPECT : I don’t respect you as an human being/lack of humanity.

*The Cold War lasted sooooo long because human beings no matter how much they disagreed ... avoided nuclear warfare.

They understood that there was no coming back once either side lunched*

1.) Doomsday clock: Humanity closer to annihilation than ever before, scientists say
Clock is now set to 100 seconds to midnight, experts announce
Andrew Griffin

Thursday 23 January 2020 16:08
Humanity is closer to annihilation than ever before, according to the scientists behind the “Doomsday Clock” .
The time has moved to 100 seconds to midnight – much nearer to catastrophe than the scientists have set the clock in the more than 70 years it has been around. It had previously been set at two minutes to midnight, which was as close as it had ever been, and matched the danger during the depths of the Cold War.

CPL LaForest Gray - Heh, someone needs to clean their clock. Rarely have they been right on anything they warned about in the past.

Study what happened in Europe in 38 and 39. WWII could have been prevented, and millions of deaths avoided, if we didn't go full out Chamberlain. We are doing it again. Putin grabbed part of Georgia, and nothing was done. He grabbed part of Ukraine already, and nothing was done. Hitler did the same thing. After this, its going to be Taiwan, eventually you have to stand up to them, but it can be done peacefully, by moving troops now. Not threatening to do it after the fact. I sat in West Germany for 3 years of my life. The day room poster said they had us outnumbered 13-1, and they never came over, and we never had a war. If we had our troops in the States, they would have found an excuse to "reunite" Germany and done it.
