This tongue-in-cheek web article refers to the AeroVironment’s Switchblade system, which loiters in the sky before crashing into its target." my friend SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL

It appears that Russia is beginning to use more stand off weapons from aircraft in Russian airspace. The UA will need more sophisticated air defense weaponry if that is the case.

What we are giving them won't help in that case. And it also appears they are launching from ships off shore

That weaponry exists but it's unlikely Ukraine military knows how to operate it, so how do they get trained? It takes months to get western units up to speed on on these systems.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - Lt Col Charlie Brown If they get more of the newer S-300's with the 95 mile range that would help (the bulk of their current S-300's only have about a 65 mile range). You are right Jack that they don't have the time to be trained on systems like the Patriot PAC-3 besides it would be almost impossible to integrate them into their radar at this stage.

We're reluctant to give them jets that they know how to operate yet people think giving the most sophisticated systems that the Ukranians most likely can't operate is going to keep the US from becoming involved?

MCPO Hilary Kunz Also, I just read some of the training can be administered remotely. Lots of griping about what not to do, little input on what to do.

MCPO Roger Collins Well I was, and still am, for providing those MiG-29s. Beyond that some Soviet era SAMs that would have capability against both aircraft and incoming stand off systems. From my flying days I know that Ukraine had those systems so getting back up to speed shouldn't be as hard as introducing today's, more sophisticated systems.
