"After an 11-day trial, judge ruled Sheeran had "neither deliberately nor subconsciously copied" Chokri's song and that while there were "similarities between the one-bar phrase" they were "only a starting point for a possible infringement" of copyright, according to BBC News."

Interesting share LTC Eugene Chu. I agree that the Ed Sheeran song was not the same as the other guys song. There's only so many cords in music anyway, and songwriters are bound to get sounds very similar to other tunes. Many new songs are similar to other hit songs, hoping to cash in on success. If you're going to be successful do you want to model someone who's not successful?? Heck no!!
This case is kind of like the famous song by Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven. There was another artist many years back who sued the band for copywriting his song. The Judge in that case ruled in Zeppelin's favor as well.
