For this I agree. If I am working for you at home, I am using my electricity, water, internet, phone, paper for printer and printer, web cam etc...those are all required for the job then the company should pay for them. The main reason I am agreeing with this is that some companies actually closed their physical offices as it was a way to save overhead...well you can't and shouldn't keep that savings of overhead costs and not pass some of it to your employees. Even a small stipend every month will be a whole lot cheaper than maintaining physical office space for a company. I hope they win this.

"In the lawsuit, he claimed that after he was ordered to work from home, starting in March 2020, he had to foot the bill for work expenses, including his internet use, extra electricity and use of his personal laptop and cellphone, at a total cost of “several thousands of dollars.”
The company had previously paid for snacks and lunch each day for employees who worked in the office — perks that were eliminated when Seppala and other staff members were ordered to work from home."

I can't disagree with you, but the employer's obvious answer might be:
- Look at what you've save in gas or other transportation costs (bus, parking, etc.). They might also point out that a person could perhaps have their auto insurance lowered since they no longer commute to work.
Then there's the old adage, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you."

SFC (Join to see) - Both my sons work from home. One for the VA Human Resources, and the other for Treasury. They both have gov't computers and their productivity has dramatically INCREASED due to no interuptions, phone calls, etc. The one son saves a LOT on gasoline alone and the other on bus fare into Pittsburgh.
A niece works from home for a bank and judging by her bonuses/merit increases, she produces for the bank. I can see however that SOME employees would "milk" the practice, but I'm willing to bet that, even without tracking software to monitor their productivity, and downturn would be obvious right away.

There's no right answer to this....I assume nobody takes a pen, pencil, printed on paper from work to use personally? Checked their email at work, adjusted the A/C etc... Let he without sin cast the first stone. This could make sense to me if it were commission but if it's salary..... that's a whole other ball of wax. To be fair... turn the situation around and the "Employers" did the same thing for workers at work doing the same thing on their dime!?!? This is a pandora's box!

CW4 Ken Grady - I clearly see your point and it is a valid debate but I respectfully disagree and yes there really isn't a right answer but in every option of every decision there is a winner and a loser. The stuff employees do and use at work is built into the business model for profit/loss. Paper, Pens, Pencils, water usage in the snack area and toilets/toilet paper, cleaning supplies and the temperature in the office etc is work related. If it is work related then it should be supplied or at least reimbursed at home. Now, there is a line...I as an employer should not be required to pay you for TP, heating and cooling and your water/electricity bill....they also should not have to pay for Internet or wireless but maybe a stipend as part of it but I do believe they should reimburse for work related supplies. If I am at home and use my printer and use up all the ink for work, shouldn't they reimburse me for that? They would pay for it in the office setting. Companies by not using an office setting are saving boatloads of money by not leasing office space and paying for the other stuff. The guys at the top are pocketing all of that savings...pass some of it over to your employees. Just my two cents.

I foresee a time when wages will go down to add in a new benefits package. Hell give me the money and I'll work in front of McDonald's and use their Wi-Fi, LOL

I'm an office person. When I need a person... I need them there, there is no substitute. Maybe some jobs can work at home effectively, in my opinion most can't.
