You may do anything you'd like in the military as long as you assume responsibility for your actions, and are willing to take the consequences. Exposing your shipmates to possible infection and departing your ship without advising your seniors are valid reasons for relief. His mission was national security, not taking care of personal legal matters.

PO1 Tony Holland I haven't been vaccinated myself and have no intention of getting the shots. However, when you are in the military you have an oath to uphold to follow orders from those that are higher rank than you. Under those conditions I would reluctantly take the vaccine. If my school district said I had to get it, I have a choice, I would simply retire, which I could do any day if I want to.
