This was incredibly cringeworthy to see this speech as someone who has spent a significant amount of time working with US Space Command (before it went away), Air Force Space Command, and the new USSF. I'm not even a former Space Officer and yet the information she articulated to our Guardians was moronic. We aren't getting rid of anti-ballistic missiles; we're just not testing them in space. The last test we conducted was under extremely controlled circumstances, against a broken satellite which was in a low enough orbit that all of the reside would burn up in the atmosphere. It added zero additional objects in space. The US is the leading steward in space, owning the most accurate and advanced tracking capabilities and reporting of all space objects and debris in orbit. Instead of speaking to an empty commitment to Space Guardians of which they already follow, she should have instead stuck to commending them for being those stewards, for maintaining the technology which literally feeds the entire world, as well as our own military forces. Rather than act like she's educating them or directing them, commend the fact that we don't willfully perform actions which create more debris, endangering all satellite constellations. Once again, another failed, unforced error? Here's a question, did she bother to have her staff reach out to the USSF to build talking points or did someone just google space.
