Does anyone have to ask what would happen to a junior enlisted troop who posted the very same thing to a COL's wife? I would see the mushroom cloud here in Arizona.

Our SARC told me a SGM told a sharp class that the reason why higher ranks dont get hit as hard as lower ranks is because they have contributed more...

This explains how a general gets demoted to col and leaves with full pension and SSG goes to jail for the same incident.

And why Sexual Harassments and Rape continue in the higher ranks. My favorite part is how E5 and below are the biggest violaters... Of course more of them happen there are more of them!!!

If we were to do the statistics percapita I bet the numbers match just more of the seniors getting away with it.

They should get hit harder because they should know better than the younger members......

When I was in a senior chief grabbed my ass, slapped it, and called me terrible derogatory names. I finally got the guts to tell someone. Even though I had been in the division 3 years longer than him, and even though I was more qualified than him or anyone else there...I was moved to a different division. He got to stay. I was out ranked and didn't own a penis so I got screwed. In the civilian world this guy would have done jail time! Not okay.

This is real issue not only for dependants but children as well, this is especially true for girls. The sad truth is that some of them take their own life after cyber bullying. Free speech ends when a certain line is crossed and one causes emotional harm to another.

People for some reason become 10 feet tall and bullet proof from the safety of their home with their ASCII assult weapon. They say things to people online that they would never say face to face.

Free speech definitly doesnt stop at "emotional harm". Can you imagine America that banned all speech that caused someone to feel "emotional harm"?

CPL Bryant Coffman SGT James Vesta The way it was explained to me is that your rights stop where mine begin. That is complicated, and not easily defined; however, If one says something to another and that person kills them self over it is that free speech? That also is complicated, but if some one says something cruel and it is also untrue should that person be afforded some protection?

SSG John Erny -
"Your rights stop where mine begin"
- Agreed, however where does it say that you have a RIGHT "not to be offended"? Please provide me with that case law cause I cannot find it.

"If one says something to another and that person kills them self over it, is it free speech?"
-Bluntly, YES! You cannot hold Person "A" responsible because that person said something that offended person "B" and then person "B" makes a decision to commit suicide. I would be scared to discuss sensitive topics out of fear I may offend someone and then be held liable for the actions that person takes afterwards.

"If someone says something Cruel should they be afforded protections"
- As of right now, YES, they are afforded protection. Whether you believe it or not. Hate Speech is protected speech. Dont let the news fool you. Here are a series of Supreme Court cases that have upheld hate speech.
http://civilliberty.about.com/od/freespeech/tp/Hate-Speech-Cases.htm

"Untrue Speech"
- This is referred to as libel, but is very difficult to prove. There are many elements required to prove libel, but if someone feels that they have been a victim of libel, there are avenues they can take for reperations. Those elements however do not apply to this situation at hand and attempting to explain that would take far too much time.

I agree that bashing a dependapotamous may be distasteful, disrespectful, and frowned upon. It is not illegal.

CPL Bryant Coffman - Thank you for great post. The legal system may work in some cases as you pointed out but it is not easy to prove.

So, does that mean all the single joes should get more respect for managing their own personal lives while they're deployed? I never had anyone paying my bills for me or taking care of arrangements for things to happen stateside while I was deployed.

Sure, its tough being a military dependent parent - but the situation is no different than the millions of single parents in the US that do the same thing for years at a time. I don't often (my memory says never) see my single mom/dad friends bragging about how hard that is.

I'm not necessarily trying to downplay things, but, there is an abundance of military spouses that seem to have a chip on their shoulder where it might be best to just shut up and let the praise come on its own rather than trying to force it.
