Ukraine is not going to surrender and Russia doesn't want to give up the territory it has managed to take.

Her point is heavily weighted toward the Russian side here. Yes, the US is supporting the Ukraine's war effort and that aligns well with the guarantees that the US (and UK) gave to Ukraine when it agreed to give up its nuclear weapons after the fall of the Soviet Union. Khruschev's daughter seems to suggest that the US should be "helping" Ukraine to a negotiated settlement but stop and think about this concept. A negotiated settlement means that both sides give up things but what is Ukraine supposed to give up? The land that Russia just took from them? Their rights to defend themselves? What is Russia supposed to give up? The land that they invaded and took? How about the land that they took a few years ago? How about reparations for all of the destruction from this incursion AND the prior one.
Russia would probably LOVE a negotiated settlement that lets them KEEP the land they currently occupy AND Ukraine agrees to not join NATO but isn't that like a burgler agreeing to let you live as long as you agree to let him keep what he stole AND you don't call the police or army yourself for the NEXT time he wants to take your stuff.

..."Russian-backed governments creating committees for regions to join Russia
A seven-member election committee is being created in the southern Kherson Region that borders Crimea to conduct a referendum on acceding to Russia. The decree by the head of the Kherson Region’s military-civilian administration said nominations were being accepted for the election committee that will have seven members serving three-year terms.

On Saturday, the head of the southeastern Zaporizhzhia Region’s military-civilian administration, Yevgeny Balitsky, signed a decree on the creation of an election committee to conduct a referendum on joining Russia."
