The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)
The origins of this story are not science-fiction ? they are science-fact. In 1943 the U.S. Office of Naval Research conducted a series of tests at the Philadelphia Naval Yard to develop a sophisticated camouflage system to make ships invisible to radar. During the final test aboard the destroyer the Battleship Eldridge, something went wrong ? very wrong. This film explores beyond reality to ask the question ?what if?? Two young seamen get...

OPDEC (Operational Deception) Have I been Involved in OPDEC? Yes! I Love Smoke and Mirrors.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Sgt (Join to see) Remember that the concept of the microwave oven came during WWII from someone noticing that the chocolate bats in his pocket melted when he was standing in front of a radar beam.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen what fun treat! But were they baseball bats or little flying-by-radar, blind-as-a-bat bats?

One thing mentioned in the film also was making ships invisible to mines by wiring around the ships hull. That's not exactly what was going on, it was an anti Magnetic field to repel mines and not attract them to the ships hull. My late Grandfather, Howard R. McCarter as an official at Boston Edison Co was involved in that then Top Secret program (now declassified) and would leave home for about 2 days for each ship outfitted in the manner in which He was directly involved in the project. He wasn't even allowed to tell My Grandmother where He was going or what He was doing. I do know that many WWII Navy Ships did end up being equipped with this system designed to repel magnetic mines.
