APOD: 2022 June 16 - Strawberry Supermoon from China

Good morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the June 16th edition of Astronomy Picture of the Day: "Strawberry Supermoon from China." This past Tuesday was the second of four 'supermoons' for this year (a supermoon occurs when the Moon is full at its orbital perigree). It was overcast in North Carolina, so we couldn't see much. This composite image combines both a long and short exposure of the rising supermoon: the long exposure allows us to see the expected features of the sunlit lunar surface, while the short exposure enables us to also enjoy a lunar corona through hazy clouds. The next supermoon occurs on July 13th.
