To remove a dead fetus after a miscarriage is still an abortion. And it threatens the mother's life. The dead fetus begins to rot inside the mother. So bans on abortion will stop (or seriously effect) miscarriage care.

SrA John Monette true for the most part. There have been cases of "stone babies" where the fetus is calcified. They are few and far between.

Having assisted many D&C as well as fetal demise fetuses through C-sections while working as a surgical technician, never on the record was it recorded as an "abortion" In fact, all three hospitals that I worked for (over 17 years), all were Christian and abortion was not allowed under any circumstance. Where the demise could threaten the health or life of the mother, removal was allowed and approved.

But it is an abortion, whether it is induced or spontaneous.

SrA John Monette - no it isn’t labeled as an abortion. Look up the diagnostic codes for billing. ICD and ACD codes. They don’t list these as abortions. Code for ectopic pregnancy. https://www.icd10data.com/ICD10CM/Codes/O00-O9A/O00-O08/O00-/O00.9 . Miscarriages are very common. A surprising number of pregnancies end in miscarriages, often women think their period is late. 30 years of providing anesthesia I have never seen a removal of a dead fetus or a D&C for post miscarriage treatment labeled as an abortion. Usually it is removal of retained products of conception. A miscarriage isn’t an abortion.

Most likely. When I was at SOS in Alabama in the early 70s we had a miscarriage. State officials came to the base hospital to confirm it wasn't actually an abortion, that's what I fear we are going back to.

But to remove the fetus from the mother classifies it as an abortion.

SrA John Monette The pro life crowd says abortions kill, in this case the fetus is already dead.

SrA John Monette - again, miscarriage isn’t an abortion and are very common . Products removed during surgery are sent to pathology for diagnosis, same as during D&C which stands for Dilation and Curettage, not abortion.
