Federal regulations require alcohol packaging and advertising to include disclaimer of drinking responsibly. Federal regulations require tobacco packaging and advertising to carry warnings of hazard to health. Maybe gun advertising should require similar actions...

But there is no requirement for a background investigation for tobacco or alcohol purchases. They are treated differently yes, but the rules are much more stringent for legal gun purchases.

Colonel Chu, that's the same "apples & oranges" argument used to compare drivers licenses to firearms. One is a privilegs, the latter a Constitutional RIGHT. Likewise with alcohol and tobacco ... both with the Surgeon General's warning. Every firearm I've ever puchased (new), actually HAVE focused warnings on the safety and/or misuse of them.
Tobacco and alcohol had for many years, been benign threats - anyone with a lick of common sense, knew that either were dangerous to health (and safety when you consider drunk drivers, etc). Only a fool, or a very young person would not recognize the inherrant hazards of a firearm.
Most schools prohibit gun safety programs offered by the NRA's "Eddie Eagle GunSafe," program. It's a gun accident prevention program that seeks to help parents, law enforcement, community groups and educators navigate a topic paramount to our children’s safety. Eddie and his Wing Team are on a mission to help you teach Pre-K through 4th graders what to do if they ever come across a gun.

"How much money are gun manufacturers making from AR-15s?
WASHINGTON (AP) - Gun manufacturers have made more than $1 billion from selling AR-15-style guns over the past decade, and for two companies those revenues have tripled over the past three years, according to a House investigation unveiled Wednesday."
