"X" - an unknown; "spurt" - a drip under pressure. All kidding aside, who better to moderate an election debate? Journalists - propagandists supporting one side and hostile to the other. Experts - those with special knowledge having little interest in or regard for candidates or the concerns of constituents. Sounds like "Sophie's Choice" to me

JOATS are good. Experts are also good - in their field. The problem is not with the expert, but rather in the expert being respected as an expert, when talking outside their field of expertise.
Personally,, I would *love* to have the secretary of state be an expert diplomat, the Secretary of Defense be an expert tactician, the Secretary of the treasury be an expert banker and economist, the secretary of education be an expert teacher, etc. And the President (and governors) be expert administrators and problem solvers.
