Looks better as Apple Pie, or Applesauce, had some home made applesauce, just last week in Texas.

2 things here:
1.) AWESOME...finally some commonsense headway. A hungry troop or one that is struggling to feed family is not one that is 100% focused on the mission which results in mission failure or worse death.
2.) Just because we wear the uniform doesn't make us any different than a job on the outside. Pay is pay and we pay our service members peanuts as compared to outside. An E-1 straight in makes 1,833.12/month. That comes to $11.45/hour now that is based on a 40-hour work week, and we know they work more than that. AND that is before taxes. These kids are ready to go into combat and die on that pay and that is all we can give them. Hell yes if they need food stamps, they should get them.

We can do better than this...our young men and women deserve more than this.

A friend at Ft Knox helped set up a food bank on base because so many young troops with families were turned away from downtown resources because of BAH. They said, if you were eligible for SNAP we would help you. So of course, we did what we always do...we help our own. But we shouldn't have to do so.

Personally, I would rather we helped our own. There are so many other hoops to jump through for "outside" help. And those hoops would take away from the mission, too.
