Most know their WWII history pretty well - or at least up to the point of the breakout into Germany itself across the Rhine. But this is a battle that occurred that some may know pieces of - or nothing at all on. Taking Vienna - even in April 1945 - was a monster task for the Red Army. Excellent historical read!!!!!

As proclaimed by the Communist Party since the liberation of Vienna by the Red Army. Central Committee gave away who it was right away. There estimate of Red Army losses was the drive to and liberation of Vienna. The article was from 2009 - so written a decade before that event.
