Part of leadership is knowing that you are replaceable at all times. Withthat in mind a leader takes the reigns in implements guidance and strategy to reach the goal or missionof the organization. They are responsible both up to their bosses or shareholders and responsible downward to their subordinates. In my time themost successful leaders I have witnessed had that balance where they could effectively serve both. Another aspect of good leadership is mentoring and training those that will come behind you to eventually take your place. We owe it to our organizations to pay it forward so to speak by training others and letting them make decisisons that are appropriate to their level of responsibility and working with them to think through those decisions, right or wrong and learning from each one. Per the article I do not agree that a leader should choose their replacement. I do agree that the problem withthat is that a leader will select someone they know and trust to continue their vision and way ahead and that does not bring in new ideas that may be depserately needed.. Good thoughts though and I like tha article...thanks for the share.
