"Ultimately, it’s unclear if the movie is meant to serve as a historically fictionalized version of Onoda as a mythical figure — so duty-bound to his country that he believed all attempts to get him to abandon his mission were conspiracy"

STUPID STATEMENT. IT WAS NOT FICTION.

I did a double take as this movie has been out for a good while. Maybe even a year.

I watched it and thought it did an OK job. It strays from Onoda's book in a few aspects, but I can't help but wonder if Lt Onoda may have slightly "sugar-coated" his own story to make it more palatable to a post-war public.

Worth the watch but differences in the book are curiously interesting.
