Was she appointed or voted into office? That probably explains a lot of why she's in that position, not to mention the obvious reason.

SFC (Join to see) - I live about 5 hours southwest of St. Louis so we don't deal with the big city very often, and not with local elections. After a quick Google search, she was elected to the St. Louis City Circuit Attorney position. It's interesting that she started out as a Prosecuting Attorney with a large firm here in Missouri a few years back.
