I do believe it has something to do with COVID. But long before that our kids are becoming less and less social. I believe it has a lot to do with the way we communicate via social media and cell phones. To me we were already isolated prior to COVID. That just took us over the top. If you don't think so, put a group of people our age and down in a room for a reception of some kind and see how long it takes for each age group to pull out their cell phone. My daughter and I were in the same house one time, and she texted me about something. I went and took her phone and told her if she wanted to talk to me, she can get her butt up and come find me and talk...She has had several run ins with friends because of words in social media. I asked her have you talked to them about it? The answer was well I have been texting, but they are ghosting me. I told her on several occasions to get in your car, go over there, and go face to face and talk this out. You can’t tell what someone really is thinking unless you can see facial expressions and body language...guess what they were back to friends instantly because what was put in a text or posted was taken out of context. Bottom line: We have lost the art of communication and we haven't passed that down to our kids...that makes them socially awkward when they must interact with others. Yes, IMHO COVID had a lot to do with it but I think it was already there prior to that and COVID just capped it off.
