For the first time since the 1980s a U.S. nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) visited South Korea on Tuesday, as the allies launched talks to coordinate their responses in the event of a nuclear war with North Korea. White House Indo-Pacific coordinator Kurt Campbell confirmed the rare visit, which had been expected after it was announced in a joint declaration during a summit between South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol and U.S. president Joe Biden in Washington in April.
"As we speak, an American nuclear submarine is making port in Busan today. That's the first visit of [an] American nuclear submarine in decades," Campbell told reporters at a briefing in Seoul, where he was attending the first Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG) discussion with South Korean officials.

We are back in the same era now that Ukraine and Russia War may possibly go nuclear or that China fights the us over Taiwan using nuclear weapons or that Iran nukes Israel with its death wish to destroy Israel even though Israel has over 25 nuclear weapons and would waste Iran as well.

There is a whole lot of distance and potential inaccuracies in their technology. And if the balloon does go up, trajectories won't matter. This is another of those smart weapon debates. Casualties in a nuclear war won't be countable in most cases, especially in targeted areas. Vaporization will eliminate the counts.
Our flight time for NK targets is a whole lot shorter than theirs to us. Their country would cease to exist before their first warhead hit anywhere in the US.

PO3 Shayne Seibert that's if we put a submarine on station somewhere near the peninsula then yes we would be able to hit them within 5 to 7 minutes. This is the original article that I took the picture from. It is interesting that between 1960 and 1970 Canada had nuclear cruise missiles called b o m a r c k missiles that were cruise missiles that could fly at Mach 2 to their targets. I believe these were American nuclear warheads with American missiles but they were lent to the Canadians as part of the NORAD Mutual defense.

That would be a nice boost to the potential retaliation speed for sure.
Our patrol packages would likely be near enough to be half or less what the flight time of any missile fired from NK. Yeah, sitting under the warhead that would likely impact in the US would suck, but knowing that the country of origin no longer exists would ease my mind if I was under it.
