If you look at the "Read This Next" below, you'll see Col. "Hub" Zemke, who was CO of the Eighth AF's 56th and 479th Ftr. Grps. He lived near me in Reno and I got to know him pretty well before I went into the army back in '69. He was credited with 19 aerial and 12 strafing kills for a total of 31 before his P-51D broke up in a thunderstorm over Germany and he spent the last seven months of the war as senior allied officer at Stalag Luft I in Barth. This was the plane he flew on his last mission in Sept. 1944.

My brother served in the AF for 12 years, 4 B/M from deployments to Nam. Suffered from PTSD, Diabetes, High cholesterol, etc. He fought for our Great Nation but never ever was the same as we all end after ETS. The worse part of it is that he passes and never was awarded his 100 % SC. Died 02/26/2023. Shame on the DOD & VA. According to his eldest daughter, the ashes are still waiting for the AF to send the urn. Six Months?????

Great share! And he and his crew survived 50 missions! Too bad that luck didn't extend to his band mates.

Thank You Brother Dale for this #VeteranOfTheDay Air Force Veteran Alvin Cline. He sure earned his nickname Lucky Jack. It never said if he got his wings back from the other woman. Regardless, he ended up with Mavis.
