Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - I expect this to go through the courts, clear to SCOTUS, and maybe even then not settled.

Damned right I am scared of Trump. If he is elected, kiss our democracy good bye and welcome Dictator Trump to office.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Stan...our democracy is turning into Socialism as we speak. Before you explode let me elaborate. Kind of like the cooking a frog analogy. You put a frog in warm water he will settle in...turn up the heat slowly so he doesn't notice...by the time is too late the water is boiling and he can't escape. That is what is going on now under Biden. But becasue of all the distractions of going after Trump, wars, inflation etc Americans can't see past what is right in front of them on the so called news instead of thinking critically. Trying to regulate guns, propane, natural gas stoves, dryers, cars, etc, etc, etc...all little things but when put together become nothing more than government control of peoples lives.

Is Trump the answer, IMHO no he is not...I personally don't like him. I wish someone other than Biden and Trump would run...some fresh blood. But I am afraid we are stuck with what we got. I just cannot vote for Biden...with what he has done to us and the way our America is headed, economically and in the worlds eye.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - "our democracy is turning into Socialism as we speak"

The right has been saying that since about 1920, with strong pushes from the various fascist groups around America through the 1920's & 1930's. And, no, I am not accusing you of being a fascist. I am just reporting historical fact. I grew up in the '50's listening to Tail=gunner Joe McCarthy spout the same "Red Scare" nonsense.
While I disagree with your comments about socialism, here is where I do agree:
"I wish someone other than Biden and Trump would run...some fresh blood"
IMO, Biden will not run, or, if he does, he will eventually step aside for Harris. I do not think Trump will ever see the inside of the white House again either. At least I hope not.

..."WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The trial in Trump’s case is expected to start on October 30 and continue through November 3. Election officials in Colorado have said there’s a “hard deadline” for the legal case to be totally resolved by January 5, given deadlines for printing ballots in the Colorado primary. How the case turns out is likely to be a bellwether for other states across the country, as legal challenges in such states as Minnesota and Michigan remain pending and others may still be brought. Legal experts have said they believe it’s likely the issue will ultimately be decided by the Supreme Court.

SURPRISING FACT
In his motion to dismiss the case, Trump’s attorneys cited failed legal challenges to former President Barack Obama’s candidacy to argue that courts didn’t have the right to determine whether Trump could be disqualified from the ballot, as judges in those cases ruled. Those legal challenges were based on a false conspiracy theory alleging Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.—a claim Trump himself long perpetuated.

KEY BACKGROUND
The question of whether Trump can be disqualified under the 14th Amendment has become a growing issue as Trump has emerged as the frontrunner in the GOP primary while his legal issues have piled up. A number of legal scholars have weighed in on the issue, with even some conservative scholars arguing he can be barred from the ballot, as more lawsuits have been filed. In addition to a growing number of lawsuits brought by groups like CREW and left-leaning Free Speech for People, lawsuits have also been brought by a Florida tax attorney—which ultimately failed—and John Castro, who plans to be a write-in candidate for president as a Republican and has filed multiple lawsuits against Trump. The Florida lawsuit ultimately failed, however, and Castro has faced legal setbacks, including the Supreme Court declining to hear one of his suits broadly challenging Trump’s candidacy after a lower court threw it out."...

This will probably not be resolved this year, if ever.

MSG Stan Hutchison - Two issues...First they have to decide if he engaged..very specific word. That in itself has nothing to do with his ability to be on a ballot. If they or whoever decide that he engaged then at that time he must be removed from the ballot due to the constitutional wording. But they haven't proven that he had in fact "engaged" in the protests/"insurrection".

Two things have to happen...decide on the facts if he was engaged in it then he is either on or off the ballot. That is my interpretation. Either way I am good I just want the law to be applied equally and without prejudice and unfortunately I am not sure that is going to happen. He has been tried in the court of public opinion and not in the court of law. Maybe maybe not but it needs to run its legal recourse before anyone can just take him off a ballot.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - A point, if I may. The wording in Section 3 goes on to say "or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof." That may be the part that stops him. Again, that will be decided by the courts. And that will take a lot of time.
