The former Delta airlines pilot who is charged with threatening to shoot a flight captain previously made headlines for challenging the Air Force’s coronavirus vaccine mandate to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The pilot, Jonathan Dunn, previously served as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve and refused to get the coronavirus vaccine, citing religious grounds, CBS News reported, which cited several sources familiar with the matter.
Dunn appealed his case to the Supreme Court, but was rejected by the panel in a 6-3 decision 2022 order that gave no reasons for the ruling, the New York Times reported at the time.

Dunn was licensed to carry a gun on board the flight through a Department of Homeland Security program that arms certain pilots to “defend the flight deck of commercial aircraft from takeover.”
Pilots who volunteer for the service, known as the Federal Flight Deck Officer program, are vetted and are required to pass a bi-annual firearms requalification, a TSA spokesperson told The Messenger.
After the incident, a TSA spokesperson said the agency immediately removed Dunn from the program “and took away his equipment.”
Dunn is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment on Nov. 16 in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City, Utah."
