PO1 William "Chip" Nagel interesting history...
"A tiny Texas town. $350 million worth of medieval treasure. The discovery is just the beginning."
COMMENT - "I live in a moderate sized city that had a small museum founded by an 18th century businessman. It had the distinction of having several Egyptian b.c. era objects and a Rockwell painting as the hallmark of the collection. Admission was free, per an endowment from the founder. Flash forward to 15 years ago, new administrators, announcing much needed changes and upgrades to the old structure. First change, salaries from 110,000 to 450,000. Sell off antiquities and Rockwell painting to fund museum operations. End free admission. Now you have to pay 8.00 to see what used to be free, and the hallmark objects worth viewing have all been sold. The real thieves are those running museums now, the real robber barons. Where is there anyone to call out these people for the shame of taking an 18th century business man's well-intentioned endowment to the cleaners? A common soldier from WW2 does it, he is a crook. A well-dressed college educated upper class type with the right credentials does it with behind the scenes administrative maneuvering, nobody wants to know, or care. He is publically lauded for doing a fine job. Disgusting!"
