In less than a week, Utah has found itself at the center of two racially charged incidents, bringing the state into the national spotlight.

The most recent incident involved a Midvale woman whose racist and hateful remarks towards a local family were caught on video and quickly went viral. The disturbing footage showed Kathryn Smith engaging in numerous confrontations, including poking the stomach of a pregnant woman and targeting the couple's son with racial slurs.


After watching the viral video, Jeanetta Williams, president of the Salt Lake National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, expressed deep concern over the incidents, stating, "All of it to me was disturbing. How she got in her face, how she poked her stomach because she was pregnant, the little boy passing by and yelling derogatory and racist things at him. Something needs to be done where it sends a clear message that this will not be tolerated."
