"Thousands of people descended on Melbourne's CBD on Sunday night to ring in 2024 and make the most of the New Year's celebrations and events.
The atmosphere was at an all-time high as around 500,000 people made their way into the CBD and surrounding areas to celebrate 2023 and ring in 2024.
There were fireworks at 9pm for people such as families who were unable to stay until midnight.
The grand finale was at midnight with fireworks launched from Melbourne's tallest skyscrapers into the midnight sky, dazzling the revellers who had gathered to watch them from the CBD and around the banks of the Yarra River.
Last night's celebrations cost the City of Melbourne and the state government around $4.4 million, which is $400,000 more than the year prior."
