Because MSG Stan Hutchison asked for complaints, here we go!
1) I do not like that these investments "allow" more manufacturing. I believe they should REQUIRE more manufacturing. Yes, it is a quibble.
2) I would also prefer that, rather than invest, the government had outright purchased. Even a pre-purchase. But the government has PLENTY of uses for these chips. Buy them and get a return on investment.
3) I would also rather see the government address the inequality that causes it to be cheaper to import. I believe in the free market. The government picking winners and losers by handing out money is, generally speaking, bad. And yes, I said the same thing about bank bailouts and auto bailouts.
All of that being said, the above are, honestly, quibbles. Overall, I think this is a good thing. Not the BEST thing, but still good. I try to give credit where due, and in this case, the administration is at least moving in the right direction.
