I would invite each of those "Nearly 200" people to list exactly what "new gun law" they want the legislature to enact.
I will bet that more than half want a "new" law that is already in place.
I would also bet that the majority of requests for any law that isn't currently in place would be people saying they want an "Assault Weapons Ban" but that none of them will be able to say what an Assault Weapon is or why it should be banned beyond the "fact" that someone told them that assault weapons are deadly weapons of war that need to be banned.
Finally if anyone in the staged protest actually had an idea not covered in the two above, I would ask how their new law would accomplish something that the existing laws didn't do.
Thousands of gun laws are already on the books but somehow Just-One-More-Law is always going to solve the problem.

MSG Thomas Currie - Actually, the left can describe what an assault weapon is. Their version of an assault weapon is a semi-automatic weapon that looks scary.
I was researching the laws to see what were in place that, if followed, would have prevented the "youth offenders" from having a weapon and came across Missouri Senate Bill 971 introduced by the state Democrats in January of this year.
https://legiscan.com/MO/drafts/SB971/2024
SB 971 prohibits any person, corporation or other entity in the state of Missouri from manufacturing, importing, possessing, purchasing, selling, or transferring any assault weapon or large capacity magazine.
You may ask (like most rational people do), "What's an assault weapon as defined by the bill?". The bill has a couple of categories (rifle, pistol, semi-automatic shotgun) that it defines what an 'assault weapon' is within that category.
For semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns:
- If the rifle/shotgun has a pistol grip or rifle/pistol/shotgun has a thumbhole stock, then it's an assault weapon
- If the rifle/pistol/shotgun has any feature that could function as a protruding grip for the non-trigger hand, it's an assault weapon
- If the rifle/pistol/shotgun has a a folding or telescoping stock, then it's an assault weapon
- If there is a shroud attached to the barrel that allows the nontrigger hand to hold it without being burned, it's an assault weapon
- If a rifle/pistol can carry more than 10 rounds (for a shotgun it's 5) than it's an assault weapon
- If a shotgun has a revolving cylinder, it's an assault weapon
Here's a quick picture guide to gun control for assault weapons according to Democrat Missouri state senators.
