There has been a lot of discussion on RP about Medical Marijuana and the VA.
Here is an interesting article and some interesting facts I didn't know about - did you?
Flash forward 9 years…(and $500,000, 000 dollars of anti-medical cannabis federal enforcement later) and for the first time, we have comprehensive medical marijuana legislation in both the U.S. House and Senate. The Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States Act (CARERS) Act of 2015 is the most comprehensive piece of federal medical marijuana legislation ever introduced in the U.S. Congress. The bipartisan act is sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and, in the House of Representatives, by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Rep. Don Young (R-AK).
This important bill would remedy the state-federal conflict over medical marijuana law, with far-reaching impacts, including:
Allowing state programs to continue without federal interference
Moving marijuana out of the Schedule I list
Removing CBD from the scheduling
Creating access to banking services for legal marijuana businesses
Ending the DEA-Imposed NIDA monopoly that blocks research
Allowing Veterans Affairs doctors to write recommendations in states that have a medical marijuana program.

Now I don't smoke and I probably never will, but i'd honestly rather have my Marines smoking pot than drinking alcohol. What are they going to do? Get the munchies and sit around laughing? As long as it's treated the same as alcohol I can't see any problems with it. I.e. Not driving under the influence or showing up to work stoned. I can see it being allowed in the military within the next ten years as public opinion on it changes. After all, it was only banned due to lobbying from a timber company afraid of competition from hemp.

I wonder though if the drug in marijuana, THC, exits the system as fast as alcohol. I know a drunk Marine is more or less sober in about 8 hours though 12 hours is better, but I have no idea how long a stoned pot smoker is under its influence. I believe that residues of the THC remain in the body for many months.

Legalizing marijuana at the Federal level is a vital and overdue step in the process. The "War on Drugs" was never winnable, and it wasted untold trillions of $$$ and lives. It's way beyond time that CBD be available in prescription form, to treat pain...

I don't doubt it, but I can't tolerate THC...

I personally don't use it, but have seen others that received extensive benefits from medical marijuana. If it helps as a natural pain killer, or is beneficial in treating PTSD without narcotics, why not???
