Charlie...in my years of service I have never been worried about an adversary...but our somewhat weak military strength coupled with our lack of strategic leadership has me a little worried when it comes to China.

This is a pretty typical speech that I would expect from a service that is about to embark on a massive campaign to get defense spending funds. I agree that we need to invest in new systems but wouldn't go along with the massive overmatch quite yet. Peer countries do have bright shiny new equipment, but can they use it? Most of the peer militaries are patterned after the Soviet/Russian military models and were getting a pretty good lesson on how effective that is with the war in Ukraine. Even in my time how US forces train and fight provided a distinct advantage over the centralized Soviet military concept and we've refined that process a lot since I retired.

The Chinese Communists are very adept at playing the banker, and Repo-man. In turn.
