Since then I have spent well-nigh 50 years working on the history of our revolution; in the process I have read hundreds of books, collected hundreds of personal testimonies, and have already contributed eight volumes of my own toward the effort of clearing away the rubble left by that upheaval.
But if I were asked today to formulate as concisely as possible the main cause of the ruinous revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of our people, I could not put it more accurately than to repeat: “Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened”

He (Putin) CLAIMS to be ROC. Is that claim factual? Or is it a self-serving claim to aid him in keeping power? I believe the article builds the case for the latter. Is there any evidence of his faith beyond his self-declaration? Did he attend church in Soviet Russia? Does he regularly attend Church now? Is there any indication of him actively pursuing a ROC Christian path? There is the undisputable fact that being a practicing lay person was an impediment to advancement in the former Soviet Union, particularly the KGB.

Putin is not the first and certainly won’t be the last leader to ABUSE [emphasis mine] religious faith as justification to conduct heinous actions.
