I used to clean Latrines so well that I often got out of inspections. When I married Kathy we split the housework. So she was cleaning our bathroom and I told her she flunked. She asked why, she thought it was clean.

"Babe, you never even used the toothbrush under the sink!"

"Why? What do you need a toothbrush for?"

"To clean around the grommets and the base of the commode."

"Show me."

And I have been cleaning our bathroom for the last forty four years. So today I found out something new. I cleaned the seats with Lysol Bleach Spray...and the paint came off!

So I went to the Bemis Website. Little did I know that they changed the paint to be "eco friendly." So nowadays, you have to clean them with "soft soap" like dishwashing soap, hand soap, or those disinfectant wipes. And then you have to dry them with paper towels.

So consider this a public service announcement for pansy toilet seats. Toilet seats as sensitive as your skin. Who knew? No Bleach! No Lysol Mold and Mildew. Just a gentle soft soap and soft cloth.
I swear I am going to get a bidet!

True story from Basic (I know,I know never believe any of the old guys stories) we had an E6 Staff that would on occasion have us scape the old wax from the platoon bay floor with our Dog Tags, and anyone who endured an IG inspection what ridiculous gyrations we were expected to keep our barracks spotless, also on a personal note I was ordered to attend the NCO Academy Ft.Hood after my return from RVN,some candidates ( not me) actually spit shined under the bunks with floor wax and cotton balls!

Not only do I believe you old guys, but I actually participated in some of the things you’re talking about as far as passing IG inspections. Lol.

1st Lt Padre Dave Poedel I think there was a method to the madness, they made living in barracks or in fact any type of a civilized environment, uncomfortable to say the least, you just wanted to get out to the boonies, away from the chicksh**t and fostered that “embrace the suck”attitude found among grunts!
