I finally gave in to the fact that whatever get up and go I had, got up and went. My grandson made a comment after I told him that my waist was 48 inches (not a typo) and I weigh almost exactly 100 pounds more than I did in HS. He said:

"Pop Pop, that can't be right. Four feet and 100 pounds is a Fourth Grader."

Yikes. So I have a Middle School child around my mid section. Oh. Dear.

So I went to the Doctor. They have offered me a Consult with a Dietician and the MOVE Program for over two years now. I turned them down every time. I thought I could do it myself. After all, I went off of sugar, donuts, soda, and cereal for three years - cold turkey. Then my little brother died January of 2023. And I stopped caring. But now, well, it is ridiculous. When I met with my Doctor we went over my Weight Loss History. Which looks like this (and believe me I am beet red while typing, but ...full disclosure is required):
2020: Weight 190. Told Doctor I would lose ten pounds. No problem.
2021; Weight: 197. Told Doctor I would lose ten pounds. No problem.
2022: Weight: 205 Told Doctor I would lose ten pounds. No problem.
2023: Weight: 212. Told Doctor I would lose ten pounds. No problem.
2024: Weight: 222. Told Doctor I would lose ten pounds. No problem.
Now, in June (all those weights were taken in January of each year) I am almost 230 pounds. No way I am losing ten pounds. I have a problem. And it is me.

So today I bit the bullet, probably the only thing I have bitten without swallowing in years. LOL I called the Doctor and admitted that my plan wasn't working at all. So they are setting up a consult with the Dietician, and enrolling me in the MOVE program.
I thought because I move so much, I could lose the weight. I do forty pushups every morning, walk at least a mile and a half, and do forty assisted deep squats ...and then three times a week, light dumbbell workouts. So the "move part" I have down for a seventy two and a half year old man.

But diet? Sucks. When I flex now, my boobs just wiggle a bit.

Wish me luck. And don't call me chubby!

Going off the obvious sweet sugars was part of it, but another part that people tend to overlook is the complex carbs. Carbs from the likes of legumes are just fine; along with vegetables in general. It's the rice, bread, potatoes, and other grass-based carbs that'll get you; at least that's how my body works.

Learned that in John Cena's 10-week body change program. When it's followed to the T it's never led me astray, and I'm definitely one of those guys who gains weight just by looking at food, and I'm not usually one to turn it down.

Thank you, Sarge, you hit a lot of my little problems. I eat a lot of vegetables just not legumes and I’ve always liked my fruit raw. And my vegetables. So let’s see how this all turns out. I have the knowledge. I just don’t have the action component.

SGT Kevin Hughes I wish the program still readily existed. John Cena came up with the program for his own dad, and it became public once it was discovered how effective it was. You can try YouTube. I think the nutrition video is still on there, but I can't be sure anymore.

I wasn't overweight anyway but by cutting sugar out of My diet I dropped 20 lbs and have kept 15 off them off. At 6'2" was 195 for over 40 years and dropped to 180.

Set reasonable and achievable targets and shoot for them with persistence. Decide to change, believe it, and then become it, You're worth it!

Man good for you for getting outside help. Maintaining diet, sleep and exercise is no joke.

I got the sleep and exercise down. But the diet sucks. Getting a lot of good information and since I already eat vegetables, apparently that’s a big hurdle. My problem is sugar. So let’s see how it goes.

SGT Kevin Hughes - .

Every morning, I drink a half glass of water with heaping tablespoon of generic Metamucil (Reguloid Brand) that I get from the V.A. ... eat a banana... drink a Boost (Chocolate of course)... small container of fruit yogurt. That holds me all day long... not hungry. I eat a reasonable evening meal and drink a homemade milkshake at night. The Metamucil swells & gives me the full feeling... plus it's good for your colon.
When I take my Mentor to Golden Corral on Wednesdays & Fridays I eat a LARGE plate of salad... baked chicken... small severing of broccoli & cauliflower... and whatever dessert I want. I maintain my wait in the 197-203 range... a good weight for me.
The only way I've been able to get down to 170 has been the 3 divorces I've been through... definitely a costly event. Been married 28+ years on #4... she said death maybe... divorce never... she's a Gem.
