ILLUSTRATIONS: (1) 4th FG aces Capts. Don Gentile and Johnny Godfrey high above Germany in their 336th FS P-51Bs, spring 1944. (2) Capt. Don Gentile in the cockpit of his 4th FG P-51B "Shangri-La" after a mission in April 1944. (3) Capt. Don Gentile buzzes the field at Debden after returning from his final mission in May 1944. Unfortunately for him, there was a slight rise in the middle of the field and he bellied in, destroying the aircraft and getting him booted out of the unit unceremoniously by 4th FG CO Col. Don Blakeslee. (4) SSgt. John Ferra finishes helping Capt. Don Gentile strap into the cockpit of his 4th FG P-51B "Shangri-La" at"RAF Debden, UK, in early April 1944. (5) The 4th FG's deadly duo--Capts. Johnny Godfrey and Don Gentile--dive in pursuit of German fighters.
