I have a wood stove. I hate the way the chimney always blocks the most important action on the screen.

we have our large flat screen on a side (internal) wall with the fire place on the end (external) wall. TV is several feet off floor in a bookcase on an articulated mount across from circular sectional couch. Works great for us.

MSG (Join to see) - Well the most important stuff happens right in the middle of the screen and there sits this 8 inch piece of black pipe. Then you laugh at my misfortune... :) But these folks are coming around to give me an interior design award. Its for best use of Farm schway in a rural setting.

I haven't attempted mounting a TV to the wall yet.

I never mounted a TV over my Fireplace, but I did take black out cloth and mount it to a frame I built out of wood and Base board trim as a boarder around it and put that over my fire place with a projector. It was a good look with surround sound speakers. I have a gas fire place so this was convenient enough to work since the tv I wanted to put there I felt would fall. Worked fine IMHO instead or puting a TV there.
