So we take a break and I am leaning up against a tree. I notice everyone stops talking. I see eyes grow wide. Then one of the other Trainees points at me and says: "Hughes, there is a giant spider on your head!"

I laugh. Nobody else does. Everybody is too scared to move. I reach up with my hand, I feel something wriggling in it. I pull my hand down, and I can't see my hand. All I can see is the undercarriage of a Tarantula trying to get free. I bounded to my feet in a single motion and took off running. I hear voices yelling at me: "DROP...THE....SPIDER."
We don't have things like this in Ohio. I did (eventually) drop the spider. I told everyone the stain on my fatigues was sweat.

I am with you on this one. I must have run a quarter mile in under sixty seconds. I did drop the spider...eventually. LOL

SGT Philip Roncari - I saw a few of those in Thailand, I am told their sting was extremely painful.

Not sure. It didn't bite me, I think it was as scared as I was, and it was upside down. LOL
