Hanukkah — also spelled Chanukah or other transliterations from Hebrew — is Judaism’s “festival of lights.” On eight consecutive nightfalls, Jews gather with family and friends to light one additional candle in the menorah — a multibranched candelabra.
In Hebrew, Hanukkah means “dedication,” and the holiday marks the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in the 2nd century BC, after a small group of Jewish fighters liberated it from occupying foreign forces.

Great recounting of the reason for the celebration … but they skip over a most important part of the story… Judas Maccabee and his gorilla fighters. They are the world’s first unconventional warfare fighters. The Maccabees took on a much larger organized Greek force and defeated them. For those of us with an interest in all things military… it’s a significant part of the story. So in the year 5794 on the Hebrew calendar we wish all of our Jewish warriors a Happy Hanukkah!
