I have recently done a good deal of research into the Libertarian candidate and I believe he may be the best option available for POTUS.

He actually looks like a good choice even if these were "normal" times and the two major parties were providing us with decent choices. I must admit though (and I'm ashamed to admit it) that I fear Hillary winning. I just can't chance throwing my vote away tilting at windmills.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Lesser of two evils. Southpark from 12 years ago and we have another Shit Sandwich and Giant Douche. As far as damaging our country I think Trump will do more damage. So I'll probably vote for Hillary. Maybe just stay home. Kansas is already determined and does not have much affect on the electoral college.

SFC Joseph Weber Don't stay home! campaign managers don't know what to do with that, they dont know if there's any way they could have had your vote...vote Libertarian and be counted among the statistically significant protest voters!

MSgt (Join to see) - one cannot ask for any more than for one to vote their conscience.

SFC Joseph Weber - ah, but one may hope that a third party candidate can win, which is why I'll vote Libertarian. I agree with you about Trump, BTW.

My son and I (both very conservative) have had these same discussions. He is in the same frame of mind as yourself. We both respect each other's choice and feel we are doing what is in the best interest. And you are right vote your conscience.

Best option, or not at this point in history a candidate from a third party is not electable. The majority will vote Democrat, or Republican.

Even if a third party doesn't win if they can do well enough they can have serious input in the process for example they could be included in the presidential debates which allows them to bring up issues that the other two parties would rather not talk about.

PO2 Robert Aitchison - I'm not saying a third party candidate won't change the scope of the race, look at Ross Perot, I'm just saying they can't get elected.

It's not that a third party candidate can't get elected, it's that too many people are blinded by party lines to even consider voting third party.
For instance, my parents are/were (Dad passed away) life-long Democrats. They blindly supported Obama simply because he is a Democrat. Never mind that he was against everything they believe(d) in such as: he's pro-choice while parents are pro-life, they believe in traditional marriage while Obama is all for marry who you love (which I actually agree with Obama on).
They voted for him simply because of the party he's a member of.
If us voters pull our heads out of our third point of exit, and vote for the right person despite party membership, we could very well vote in a third party candidate.

Had the Democratic Party taken a serious look at Jim Webb and were they about to nominate him, I believe the Dems could lock this election up. Instead we are stuck in a place where the only two front runners are only viable because of how many people hate the other!

SSgt (Join to see) - Perhaps, but Trump touched something Webb couldn't, the inner anger and frustration of people who are tired of seeing America slide the wrong way on a one way street... But I think it would have been a much different battle... And you could be right, unfortunately the Dems picked Hillary????? That might seal their fate and cost them.

SSG Pete Fleming - I wouldn't expect Webb to appeal the way that Trump did. But I don't believe that Trump would be able to appeal the way he is if the Dems were running Webb.

On the Democrats side Jim Webb was the only sane one who ran from that side. Unfortunately for the dems that party has drifted way left, to the point that electing anyone they put forward now will most likely have devastating consequences for the country. Not saying I would have voted for Webb in a general election, but at least he understood the reality of the world, the dangers out there and the strength we need to project.
